Benefits of Water
Children are increasingly aware of the benefits of a healthy diet. Through their parents and school they are well versed in the importance of having five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, how to enjoy a healthy, balanced diet and have probably seen a change in there school lunch menu over the past year.
It is important that children know the benefits of a healthy diet and the dangers of processed food but the vital role that water plays in the body is an area that few schools discuss.
Cold Drinking Water
Chilled drinking water speeds up the body's metabolism, promotes healthy skin and eyes and stops you feeling lethargic. Water is also vital for the body's major organ function, especially the digestion system, the brain and kidneys.
Children should be taught in personal, social and health education (PSHE) classes the importance of water for our long term health and be encouraged to have cold drinking water with every meal and at the start of each day to reach the recommended 8 glasses a day (2 litres).
Drinks Machine
Studies have shown that children, particularly senior school pupils, rebel against directives set down by the school. By having drinks machines and bottled water coolers dotted around the school students will be encouraged to drink more water whilst feeling that the decision is their own.
Coolers in and around P.E changing rooms, the school canteen and dotted through the school corridors will ensure that the pupils have pure water on hand throughout the day.
- Position bottled water coolers throughout the school
- Promote water as part of a healthy lifestyle
- Teach children the long term health benefits of water.
