Regional Information

Mineral water has been filtered naturally through aquifers and is safe to drink from the source, with no need for any chemical cleaning.

Spring water is similar, although it does not have as high a mineral count as that can be classified as mineral water. In order to be recognised as mineral water there needs to be 250 parts of dissolved solids per million that have come directly from the source and have not been added later.

Because water acquires its mineral content from the geology of the aquifer it flows through there are a wide variety of mineral waters across the UK. The transmissivity of the aquifer also affects the mineral levels, i.e. the slower the water flows, the higher the content.
