Water is made up from a combination of hydrogen and oxygen, is the basis for all fluids in the body and makes up around 2/3 of the weight of the human body. All of your body's organs require water to function. The body needs fluids to function from start to finish:

  • Absorbing Nutrients
  • Transporting Waste

Recommended Daily Intake

It is recommended that you drink between 6-8 glasses of water or another way of working how much you should drink is to take your body weight in pounds and then divide by 2 and drink that many ounces a day i.e. If you weigh 160 pounds you should drink 80 ounces per day.

Other drinks, such as tea, coffee and fruit juice, can count towards your daily intake but these are often high in caffeine and sugar and should not make up the majority of your daily fluid intake.

Thirst is a sign that dehydration has started and the body is crying out for water to function. Therefore, it is important to drink at constant intervals throughout the day.

Classic signs and symptoms that you are not drinking enough water are:

  • Headaches
  • Tiredness / Lethargy
  • Lack of Concentration
  • Constipation
  • Dull Skin
  • Prone to Kidney Infections
